Welcome
Inn by the Rose Garden

Our INN is located in 144 Bridge Street East, next door to the Rose Garden. It was built in 1859-1860, for Dr. Rufus Holden, an apothecarist and physician.

The home and gardens occupy two prime city lots on "Taylor's Hill". The executors for Dr. Holden sold the home in 1878 to George and Phyllis Wallbridge. The Wallbridges had many parties in their home, with a three piece orchestra for dancing. They used the big room on the east side and a smaller room that had been Dr. Holden's office. Between the two rooms was a fireplace that opened both ways. Mrs. Wallbridge had the partition removed, leaving the fireplace, so they could dance in both rooms and around the fireplace.

Amy Wallbridge, daughter of George and Phyllis, sold the home to Gerald Jenkins of the Quinte Hotel in 1927. The Jenkins family owned the home until 1972. After the Jenkins family, the home had several owners over the next twenty-six years.

In the fall of 1998, we purchased the home. Since purchasing the home, we have done extensive renovations with two main objectives, to provide you with deluxe accommodation, and to respect the Victorian splendour of the home. I think we have succeeded.

Common Rooms

Front Hall
Parlour

On the first floor of the main house there is a living room (The Wallbridge's party room) and a kitchen (formerly Dr. Holden's office, we replaced the partition Mrs. Wallbridge removed). These two rooms are private.

A parlour and dining room, both with garden doors opening to the large terrace overlooking the garden and swimming pool. These two rooms are open to the Bed & Breakfast guests. The Dining Room has a wet bar which includes a microwave, kettle and coffee maker for your snacking enjoyment. There is a powder room provided on the main floor for your convenience. Cable TV with VCR and CD players are located in the Parlour.

On the second floor are three large bedrooms, each with a motif. All the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, cable TV, wireless internet and private phone.
